Mutant Kitty

It's funny how some people react to mutations, whether in people or animals. Yesterday, I took all the kids to the park to play because it was finally a cool, beautiful day. While there, some of the kids spot a stray kitten. If I would guess, I would say she is about 4-6 months old. She looks just like my cat Reeses which made me fall in love immediately. Upon picking her up and petting her, I noticed something odd. Her front paws had 6 toes!! OMG, I thought! This is a Hemingway Cat. They are a rare type of cat because of this mutation. Most of the Hemingway Cats in Florida live at the Ernest Hemingway House in Key West. I have always wanted this type of cat simply because they were different. It was funny to see how the other parents reacted to her. One mother was telling her little one to stay away from the cat because something was wrong with it. I tried to tell the mother that nothing at all was wrong with the kitty except that she had extra toes. I learned that they are also called polydactyl. Meaning,  having more than the normal amount of digits, whether it be fingers or toes. So, needless to say, I had to have her. I was asking other moms if they were interested in taking her and giving her a good home. Both moms I spoke with were allergic, so the answer was no. I laughed and told them that I was too but I like pain and suffering. LOL In my mind I just wanted to check what the possibility of me keeping her was. I really wanted her and I had to make sure no one else did. A few of the parents have never even heard of such a cat. So, as we were leaving I grabbed her and took her home. On the way, the kids were worried about the possibility of keeping her. I told them that I would try very hard to persuade Jeff to let us. No problem! We got home and I walked in with kitty in hand, batting my eyelashes. I walked up to Jeff and asked. Of course his first response was no and that we already had one cat and one dog. For him, that was enough. So, I accepted his no as the answer and moved on to try and find her a home. In my search, I found the Hemingway House and I was going to call them to see if they were interested in having her. Luckily for me and the kids...Jeff changed his mind! Yay! We were so excited. We now have a very special addition to our home. I know she will be very happy here. We are all animal lovers and we will take very good care of our mutant kitty. Since our other cat was named Reeses, Sam thought a good name for her would be Butterfinger. How appropriate! The kitty and the name stays. We are so excited. She is such a sweet kitten too. I know she is happy to be here with us because she hasn't stopped sleeping. She has already found and used the litter box. Who says cats aren't smart! Phhhffffftttttt!

Isn't she awesome!

Does her ears get any bigger, she is very pretty. She is a mutant and that is probably what makes her lovable.
